We had a wonderful holiday on Seil Island. Went to all these places. I was rather taken with Luing and its history. We had a lovely picnic by the derelict pier and wished we had brought a canoe or swimsuit. Luing - A place to think, a place to be, splendid isolation, yellow corn, blue sea.

We will be staying at Ardmaddy as part of a large family party during the week starting Friday 7th August. My daughter's mother-in-law is wheelchair bound and I wondered if you could recommend a place of interest that we could take her to and where we could get a bit of lunch. (It does not have to be in Oban). Thank you.

Been to Callander on many occasions, has + points and - points. Parking costly when you can find it, toilets costly, off the main st, you have to pay parking charges to use the toilets, the ones near the Police Station, free, should have been closed, years ago. Shops geared up for tourists, tacky.Typical scotland, almost everwhere closes at 5pm, summer and winter. Beware the boy racers, we were involved in a hit and run, outside Callander, local police very helpful, but although the other car, caught on town CCTV, the system is that old, it could not read this cars No plate.
Only 1 garage that closes at 9pm.If your into walking, fair enough, but 40 mins will take you round the shops, although visit the toy museum, main st, excellent. In the good weather theres a constant stream of high powered motorbikes, zooming by you, on bends etc, in this area, lovely spot at Loch Lubnig, but you will not get near it during the fishing season, due to every open area, consisting of fishing tents, fires, drunken fishermen, etc.
Fantastic scenery, going to, and especially from Strathyre, Callander itself, take it or leave it.

Delightful article. I am a descendant of the Carmichaels of Lismoe and have visited the island several times. This is the best and most complete write-up I have seen.
Many thanks.
